I-CAT ImagingÂ
The team at TMJ and Sleep Therapy Centre of West Los Angeles embraces technological advancements that make treatment more accurate and more comfortable. This is why we use the advanced i-CAT 3D imaging system. Because Farshid Ariz, DMD can see your maxillofacial structures in minute detail, it is easier to craft an accurate treatment plan. Contact our doctors if you would like to learn more about our i-CAT imaging.
Unlike 2-D X-rays, i-CAT can expand to focus on small areas and rotate the image to give us different views of the bones, teeth, nasal passages, and more. This allows us to consider the issues from all angles, finding problems not otherwise seen and treating them with greater accuracy. A major benefit to the i-CAT is that we can use it for more than just dental evaluations. The scan starts at the nose and ends at the throat, giving us the ability to assess your airway. This level of scanning can help with certain orthodontic cases, such as when a blocked nasal passage contributes to a narrow maxilla. This detailed airway scan is also helpful when crafting sleep apnea treatments. For those who cannot or do not want to use a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine, can i-CAT scan allows us to produce an oral appliance that gives the patient alternative treatment.
If we scan your maxillofacial regions using i-CAT for sleep apnea and other problems, then we may take some of the following steps:
- Once we have scanned the airway and nasal structures, determine if there is enough room in these areas by viewing the image on i-CATs TxSTUDIO software.
- Rotate the scan to measure the dimensions and diameter of the posterior nasal pharynx and airway passage from multiple angles.
- Take a close look at the nasal passage in order to determine its importance in overall airway diagnostics.
Home Sleep TestingÂ
Powerful. Simple.  MediByte Junior is a Type 3 Recorder
Using patent pending technology, this next generation MediByte Jr Home Sleep Testing (HSAT) device provides simple, cost effective and reliable screening for sleep apnea. Constructed of smooth nylon/plastic with an extra-strength LEMO connector, the MediByte Jr was designed for durability. Weighing just 91 grams, it is ideal for both adult and pediatric studies. Side wings attach the unit to the chest effort belt so that a holding vest or pouch is not required.
On-board oximetry, and internal pressure sensor eliminates external transducers. Studies are stored on the internal memory and downloaded via a USB computer connection.
This recorder is the next generation of screening devices. CPAP compatible. The MediByte Jr may be used during titration studies or for 12-week follow-up evaluations.

Itero Intraoral Scanners
How Do iTero Intraoral Scanners Work?
Intraoral scanning is a 3-Dimensional (3D) approach for capturing dental images. This technology enables us to achieve accurate and detailed dental models that enhance the efficacy of capturing dental anatomy and enhance the accuracy and precision of custom made oral appliances. How Do iTero Intraoral Scanners Work?
iTero scanners feature a laser, or light-emitting wand, that is run through your mouth to create an equivalent digital 3D impression. The wands of today are significantly smaller than the wands of previous intraoral scanners. for their inability to create accurate impressions of a patients molars. On the contrary, the iTero wand is small enough to reach the farthest molars: a massive win for intraoral scanners. iTero scanners also allow for real-time simulations. This means that you get to watch the generation of your dental impression as the wand moves through your mouth. The simulation gives you a bigger role and increased control in the process. All resultant scans can be forwarded to our dental lab for fabrication of the costume made intraoral and sleep appliances.
